New virtual institute launched

As part of the Muographers 2016 program, held at the Italian embassy, the Muographers launched a the Virtual Muography Institute, VMI, an online collaboration tool that has been enabling researchers based worldwide to more effectively communicate with each other.

Christiano Bosso (National Respresentative, National Institute for Nuclear Physics INFN, The University of Salerno) and Hiroyuki Tanaka (Professor, University of Tokyo) developed this resource along with other members of the European and Japanese community.  In the Lab feature of the system, users can initiate projects with tools to share data, schedule shared tasks and track activities.  Also included is a robust email system.

The Italian Ambassador, H. E. Domenic Giorgi, Professor Hiroyuki Tanaka of the University of Tokyo’s Earthquake Research Institute, Project Associate Professor Hiroyuki Sekioka of the University Museum of the University, Dr. Cristiano Bozza of the National Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN) and the University of Salerno, and Associate Professor Hirohisa Mori of the International Research Center for Japanese Studies gave a press conference to highlight this event.  A new logo was created and T-shirts were produced and distributed to further promote the new resource for the muography community.
